    • State has recognized our non-profit status.
    • IRS has not yet responded.
  • New business
    • Karen and Susan will be working on the website redo to shift to MAFA hosting. Content and additional hands welcome.
    • Treasurer’s report delivered. Current year income from dues & raffles. Expenses from rent, and website fees.
    • Tour De Fleece - to run from June 29 - July 21st

      • Chesterfield County Fair rep Dana Geddes came to speak about their Sheep to Shawl event 8/27

          Fleece to Shawl:

          • looking for teams if there is enough interest, but open to a single group demo for the day
            Covered space, but no AC
          • mystery fleece to be provided by the fair.
          • demonstrators will get free fair admission, and if there over 4 hours, a free meal card.
          • any spinning method welcome
          • currently plan to spin raw / in the grease, but open to allowing it to be washed if that will increase interest
            • would need volunteers to wash
          • in addition to spinning, need carding / combing demonstrators and weaver
        • Fiber competition for many classes - catalog is online and they are open to suggestions of additional categories.
          • drop off in August for Friday judging
          • stays at fair for the duration of the fair (8/23 - 8/31)
          • will be able to submit items to both Chesterfield and Virginia state fairs.

  • Welcome & Introductions / show & tell
  • Read last month’s minutes.  Approved by Susan and 2nd by Monique
  • Old business
    • Alpaca challenge - contact Susan if still need Alpaca for the challenge.  Spinning or blending is acceptable.  Singles or doubles can be submitted.  October delivery to participate
    • IRS and state documentation in process.  Goal is to be done by June.
  • New business
    • Treasurer’s report delivered.  Current year income from dues & raffles.  Expenses from rent, workshop costs, website fees and demo costs.
    • Website issue discussed.  Considering vendor change so we can get get better control.  Plug-ins needed.  Vendor suggestions welcome.
    • Committees discussed
      • Library - Run by Cindy.
        • Reminder can email Cindy book requests.  Inventory listed on website.  Noted that the bookshelves are part of Clothos’ assets.
      • Equipment - Run by Jo Wong.
        • Accepting volunteers to assist with Inventory listing and photograph updates for website.
        • Rental terms discussed - 3 months (pay per month), waitlist will be kept, can extend rental for 3 month terms if no-one on waitlist.
      • Newsletter - Run by Porter
        • Porter will take this over.  Format suggestions are welcome.  They can be emailed or bring to future meetings.  Quarterly Zine being considered with plans to include pattern link, member highlight, blast from the past.
      • Additional committees with openings - Historian, Hospitality, Event / Program Coordinator
    • Board Vacancies to be nominated during May meeting - Treasurer and Vice President
      • Board will meet 30 minutes before every monthly meeting and at quarterly membership meetings.
    • Dues will be due every July and will not be prorated.  $25 for primary member, and $10 for each additional household member.
    • Membership list availability and format discussed, but tabled until website issues resolved.

By-Laws Summary

  • Members can call a meeting 30 days prior.
    • Make them public.
  • Business meetings will be held quarterly.
  • The business year for the guild runs from July to June.
  • Board will consist of up to 9 members with terms of 2 years.
  • Committees will be formed for additional events as needed.
  • Vote was passed with no dissent.
  • Articles of Incorporation.
    • Renee Hoyos will be person of record.

Challenge

Take alpaca and spin alone or blend with other fiber. Bring finished item in for Octobers meeting.

Show and Tell

Many beautiful items were shown: recycled silk into shawl, spun alpaca, spinning cotton on charkha, Shetland on drop spindle, needle felted sheep, fair isle hats and many
more.

Thanks to our all our instructors and helpers for making this a rewarding retreat.
