- 11:30 am – 1:15 pm– Beginning Spinning (Joy Horner)
- Joy Horner - Bio. started spinning 12 years ago. Have spun many different breeds. Have taught many new spinners how to spin. Have learned many techniques like fractal, combination, spinning for knitting/weaving and spinning for colour.
- Course description: you will learn how to attach a leader to your bobbin and start spinning! Predrafting technique will be demonstrated as well as stripping your braid for colour if there’s time. Different drafting and spinning styles such as worsted, woolen and combinations of those. Long draw vs short; forward vs backward etc. How to control your fibre supply to get nice smooth singles or fuzzy singles.

- Cynthia Haney - Bio. - Cynthia Dianne Haney, a spindle maker, is passionate about teaching people how to spin. She designs spindles and turns them on the lathe to aid students with high quality performance. Enabling students to make the yarn they want with a spindle. Teaching beginner spinners, of all ages and abilities, since 2011. From individual lessons to specialized group classes at guilds, Camaj School of Fiber Arts, Fiberworld, Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair, and Maryland Sheep and Wool. - Course Description. Spin Anywhere on a Drop Spindle
Discover the fun portability of spindles. Learn how your spindle can work with you to make yarn. Build skills for confident spinning by using the park-and-draft method. Conquer any challenges that kept you from enjoying them. Experience the control and choice a spindle provides over your yarn. Cynthia, a spindle maker, loves sharing her passion for spinning. She patiently teaches you the nuances of drop spindle spinning. - Tools & Materials for class:
A top whorl drop spindle with a hook. Cynthia will have Beginner Friendly Spindles available to purchase before class. If a student provides their own spindle recommended weight 1 – 3 ounces, a rim weighted whorl shape helps. Cynthia will provide wool roving for class.

- Andrea Korotky - Bio. I’m a native New Yorker from the lower east side and learned to weave at Riverside Church’s craft school. I studied design at Parson’s and industrial weaving/weaving for industry at Fashion Institute of Technology while working full time at Newsweek Magazine. A. Korotky Studio, a Weaving and Textile Design Studio, was established in 2002-03. The studio is a teaching place, and a gallery space, and is open by appointment.
Banksy is my hero. - Course Description. Hands-on weaving on rigid heddle looms; demonstration of techniques, materials, equipment; discussion of yarns/suppliers/resources; display of samples and examples of the various kinds of work that can be created on these looms. All questions answered!
- What I will bring with me:
I will bring several rigid heddle looms, warped and ready to weave, handouts, samples, yarns, and all the equipment needed to set up and work at the looms. I will also have current issues of Handwoven and Easy Weaving With Little Looms on hand.
